Hilarius Kachhap, a co-accused named in the alleged land scam case along with Jharkhand ex-CM Hemant Soren, passed away on Tuesday due to a heart attack. Kachhap, who had been experiencing chest pains, was admitted to Jharkhand’s RIMS hospital for treatment. He has been unwell for the last few days and died during the treatment.

The names of Soren and Kachhap were named in the chargesheet filed in the case involving the illegal annexation of 8.86 acres of land in Jharkhand’s Bariatu. On March 30, a special court of the ED in Ranchi charged former CM Hemant Soren, former Revenue Deputy Inspector of Badgai Region Bhanu Pratap Prasad, Hemant's friend and architect Vinod Singh, tenant Rajkumar Pahan, and land dealer Hilarious Kachhap in the disputed land case of Bariatu.

According to the ED's allegations in the chargesheet, Hilarious Kachhap was reportedly involved alongside Bhanu Pratap Prasad, the then Revenue Deputy Inspector of Badgai Region, in the verification process of the 8.86 acres of land claimed by Hemant Soren. Furthermore, Kachhap was implicated in the construction of perimeter fencing around the said land, purportedly for Hemant Soren's benefit. The fencing enclosed a room with an electricity meter, bearing Hilarious Kachhap’s name.
